Mississippi Schwingen!

Grab your Leiderhosen and get ready to flap your wings....Germanfest is almost here! Just when you think you've seen it all...Mississippi Swing! and the Mississippi Community Symphonic Band team up  to tranform themselves into Mississippi Schwingen! - quite possibly  the largest organized German Oompah Band in the state! The 20-30 member group performs authentic German classics!  The event takes place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Gluckstadt, MS. Take I-55 to Exit 112 and go west 0.3 miles on Gluckstadt Road. The event is from 11-5. The event is a blast - complete with authentic German food, horse drawn wagon rides, games for the kids, country store,  free parking and admission.  Advance meal tickets are available from parishioners of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Ticket information is also available by calling the parish office at (601) 856-2054.

Celebrating our 13th year performing at Germanfest!

It was another great year for the MCSB Oompah Band Mississippi Schwingen! Twenty-two musicians volunteered  for the 2019 performance at Germanfest:

Tunes included: Narrhalla-Marsch, Ein Prosit, Buttenmarsch,Helau, Helau, Die Stimmungskanonen, Bexbacher Marsch, Die tollen Tage, Der treue Husar Marsch, So ein Tag so wunderschon wie heute, traBenfasching, Karneval am Rhein, Ein Hoch den Narren,In Muchen Steht Ein Hofbrauhaus, Dance Little Bird (Chicken Dance), Eidelweiss, Too Fat Polka, and Beer Barrel Polka! Before and after the performance, musicians chowed down on free kabobs, brats, sauerkraut, and pork chops - compliments of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

A special thanks goes to all who participated and David Battaly for serving as our song announcer.
